RE: Asheville area to Townsend Tn

You can run I-40 west to Knoxville take I-640 to I-275 South to I-40 west, stay in right hand lanes and take the Hwy 129- Alcoa Hwy-Airport exit. After passing the airport take Hwy 321 through Maryville to Townsend.
Hwy 321 between Maryville and Townsend is a good road.
You will need to take this route through Knoxville because I-40 is closed downtown due to road construction.

RE: Nashville

Of the three the KOA is a little nicer. All three will make you a good base camp to visit Nashville.
We prefer one of the COE parks Seven Points on J Percy Priest Lake or Cages Bend on Old Hickory Lake.

RE: Site recemendations for Cades Cove and Elkmont

Here is a link to a map of the Elkmont campground.
http://www.nps.gov/grsm/planyourvisit/upload/Elkmont2.pdf
The sites in orange are for larger rv's. We stayed on site E6 and had plenty of room for our 32' TT and TV.
You may want to call the campground and check before you book. The site must be long enough to park both your RV and vehicle on the pavement... you cannot park off the pavement on the grass and the rangers do enforce this rule.
Elkmont is a good campground. You should have a great time there.

RE: Skyline Nomad -- issues?

It is not a Nomad but we have a Skyline product, a 2008 Skyline Mountain View MV2911.
We have been very pleased. No major problems or issues.

Can't help with Powell Valley Resort.
Cove Lake State Park is in Caryville. A lot of people give it good reviews.

RE: Problem with swaying

I tow a 32' trailer that weights around 7,000 pounds loaded with a 2003 Alvanche Z-71 with the 5.3 engine, 3.73 rears. I have the equalizer hitch and 10 ply tires on the Alvanche. The Alvanche has a 7,900 pound tow rating. I have no problem with sway. Get a Equalizer or Reese dual cam and put 10 ply tires on, It will make a world of difference.

If you are wanting to stay in Cosby, I would recommmend Jellystone or Smokey Bear. Both are very nice campgrounds with good host.

We went to a local sign shop. They took the old ones off, designed and installed the new ones for about 1/2 the cost of ordering from the trailer mfg.

RE: My Awning lock

I'm unclear on what you are trying to do here & why? Would you explain please? Thanx
There has been several post on this forum about the awning unrolling while travelling. This should lock the awning as to where it cannot roll.

My Awning lock

My original post had a bad link.
I am reposting this due to bak links on the other post.
Here are two good links:

and
http://outdoors.webshots.com/photo/2275166660103064495WbITVX?vhost=outdoors
I made this yesterday.
I got the idea from the people that are using the awning pull rod.
I went to Lowes to the electrical department and bought a 10' 1/4"x20 threaded rod. cost $3.22
I went to the plumbing department and bought 10' 3/8" pex pipe
( pvc). cost $3.37
I went to the hardware dept and bought 2 hex nuts and 2 washers ...
cost $0.22
Total cost with tax was $7.47
I bent the rod as to where about 15" would slide inside awning hole.
I then bent the threaded rod to where it would run down the awning rail and through hole in the awning foot a couple of inches and cut it off.
I then cut the pvc pipe and slide the threaded rod inside it.
I put a washer and nut at the bottom of the pvc pipe just at the top of the foot. I put a small piece of pvc below the foot and place a washer and hex nut and tightened hand tight.
I'm going to secure this to the awning rail either by velcro strips or nylon draw ties.
It is easy to use can install in maybe 2 minutes.
here is a link to a photo of my awning lock.
This was a bad link..... sorry
Opinions..... will this work?

RE: truck tires do i need 10ply?

If you going to replace your tires, get the 10 plys. I upgraded to 10 plys. When not towing I have them inflated to 60 psi, when towing I inflate to 80 psi. The ride is fine.
I personally feel safer knowing I have good quality stronge tires. Some may say it's overkill, I look at it as a safety issue. A 10 ply tire is a lot stronger than a 6 ply tire. I guess it is what one is comfortable with.
